Summary
Psalm 3 is a prayer of David, composed during a time of great personal distress when he was fleeing from his son Absalom. It reflects themes of trust and deliverance amidst adversity. The psalm begins with David acknowledging the multitude of his enemies and their taunts that God will not save him. Despite this, David expresses profound confidence in God’s protection, describing the Lord as a shield, his glory, and the lifter of his head. He recounts how he cried out to God and was heard from God’s holy hill. David finds peace and rest, unafraid of the tens of thousands set against him because of his faith in God’s salvation. The psalm concludes with a plea for deliverance and a declaration that salvation belongs to the Lord, with a final blessing upon God’s people.
